BoneGrowths
Just as any cultural artifact carries on existence beyond their original function, beginning a new journey, these combinations of objects create new meaning imbued with a past, present, with a purpose for existential growth. In my series of sculptures titled Bonegrowths, I investigate spaces with deep connections between our bodies and our changing land, encouraging appreciation for our responsibility as guests of this earth. With metallic silk textiles, beads, and mixed media, and "bones," I delicately sew the fabrics tightly around the bones and objects, weaving my personal narratives while safeguarding an intricate armature system. While each piece may have a personal story, my intention is to transcend temporal and spatial boundaries indicating a need to not only surround our own bodies with adornment but to protect the land which sustains us.
